First created by Ida B. Wells in the 1880's, it was the most radical Black advocacy newspaper of its time. Ida B. Wells took over the paper, and became of one the best, most fierce,Black activist journalist in the country. in that spirit, we are recreating the Memphis Free Speech as a 21st century blog to push for similar ideas that we believe that she would have supported. were she alive at this time.

The thing about government censorship here is how it is accompanied by so much hypocrisy about "free speech" and "free press." Only if you toe the local government line and maintain its lies will you be heard from in its media. This is the most repressive media we have encountered anywhere, but even so it will be defeated. We are not totally dependent upon the gutter press or government/corporate media in the 21st century.
